Carol teaches private music lessons at Old Town Elementary School in Old Town, Maine and in Searsport, Maine. She offers lessons on piano and flute.
Students receive a once-per-week 30-minute lesson by choosing a day and time which becomes their standing appointment. Anyone is welcome, including adults. You do not need to be an OTES student in order to receive lessons at the school. You must have regular access to a playable, well-maintained instrument, as students are expected to practice daily. Pricing: Tuition for lessons is charged by the month, payable by cash, check, or Venmo, and due on the first lesson day of the month.
2023-2024 Lesson Calendar I still have very clear and fond memories of my earliest piano lessons. My first teacher, Velma Clark, taught out of her home in Anderson, Indiana. Her very large parlor with high ceilings and carved woodwork held two back-to-back grand pianos. The tall windows were dressed in maroon velvet and lace and I sat in a matching velvet-lined window seat to wait for my lesson.
The piano is, in my estimation, the best instrument to learn for a sound musical foundation, especially for children if they want to move on to other instruments in the future. Adults often come to me for lessons saying that either they took lessons as a child and wish they hadn’t quit, or that they have always wanted to learn the piano and decided now is the time. Many find that practicing the piano is a relaxing and rewarding time spent away from the daily busyness of life. Piano lessons are available to adults and children age 5 and up. All students receive training in technique, theory, performance, and sight-reading using the Faber piano method books. These are supplemented with music that the student chooses, be it popular, folk, classical, jazz, or show tunes. Instruction is individualized to each student and they progress at their own rate. School age students participate in contests when available and a piano recital once or twice a year.
When I was in grade school, the high school or the local music store used to send people to exhibit the different instruments to the children in the hopes of garnering their interest and participation in the band program. The various instruments were introduced one by one and a little tune played on each. When they demonstrated the flute, I was instantly in love! When I started flute lessons, it had helped immensely that I had already had three years of piano lessons. Flute became my major at the College Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati. Besides being in love with the instrument, it has been a significant source of income for me, through performing at literally hundreds of weddings over the years. It continues to be a very rewarding instrument as I play in the Bangor Band today. When I moved to Maine, I was very pleased and a bit surprised to see such a big and active band program in the schools. The success is due not only to the music teachers in the schools, but to the parents who support the program. I am very happy to do my part giving private instruction to flute players to make them the very best they can be in their school band. | |
